There’s hope and then there’s hope

Life is full of surprises. If you’d asked me yesterday for a prediction for the Croatia v. Scotland qualifier played last night the best I could have done would have been to answer along the lines of ‘I hope we don’t get hammered’. And then the boys in blue go and win the game. The ‘hope’ that I can express with regard to our national team is grounded not in reality but in a vague sense of what I would like. My hope may on occasion be fulfilled and even surpassed but will, sadly, often prove mercurial.

How different is our hope as believers.

In the letter to the Hebrews we read of our hope as Christians; a hope that is grounded in the faithfulness of God and that finds expression in the promise of God to be our God. This hope is firm and secure. This is a hope that will never disappoint. Life may rage and the storms may seem never to quell but we can testify with believers through the ages

(Hebrews 6:19);

‘We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.’

We all need an anchor. May the hope of the gospel be your anchor. Firm and secure.

David
