Discipleship Explored: We have started a new course of Discipleship Explored. This is suitable for all and anyone interested is welcome. It is particularly useful for those who are new to being a Christian. We meet at 7pm for a meal and then start the course around 7.45pm, finishing at 9pm. If anyone would like to take part but did not manage the first week, please come and join in this week.

Scottish Government Transgender Proposals: Coalition for Marriage have published guidance for supporters on the Scottish Government’s proposed changes to the 2004 Gender Recognition Act. It may be downloaded here.

Changes under consultation include:

  • Abolishing the current requirement for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria confirmed by two doctors before a legal sex change;
  • Scrapping the requirement for a person to prove they have lived as if the opposite sex for two years. It would be replaced by stating that they have done so for three months, with a further three month cooling off period before the change is finalised;
  • Allowing children to legally change their gender at 16 or 17-years-old and without parental consent.
  • The present laws on gender recognition are far from ideal. However, the reforms proposed by the Scottish Government have the potential to be even more harmful to marriage and the family.

We urge all supporters to consider making a response to the consultation. It runs until March 17th. Our sincere thanks to all who respond.

Bon Accord’s Got Talent: We are having a Fundraising evening for the work of the WFM on Saturday 25 April 2020 at 6pm.

Do you have a secret talent?  Are you hiding your light under a bushel?  Can you play the spoons like a pro?   If so, Bon Accord needs you.   We need singers, dancers, poets, musicians, magicians and more!  All ages are welcome!   Please speak to Judy if you are able to take part.   If you would like to be part of the audience rather than participate then bring along yourselves and a friend to enjoy the food (snacks and puddings) and evening entertainment.   Please speak to Isobel if you can help with the catering.   Donations towards this year’s WFM project will be collected.

Biblical Counselling Event: The Association of Certified Biblical Counsellors is hosting a talk on Anxiety in Fernielea Gospel Hall on 29 May. The speaker is Dale Johnson. The event is free but registration is required. Please speak to Suzanne or Wilma N for more details.

Bible and Bagels: Bible and bagels takes place on Sunday morning starting at 10.00am. We will continue to look at the series “Dust to Glory” an Overview of the Bible with R. C. Sproul. Although this is a series, each lesson stands alone and it is quite possible to come on an occasional basis.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) - Guidance For Congregations:

The Board of Trustees offers the following guidance to Free Church congregations in relation to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

    Congregations should follow best hygiene practices and the general principles from Health Protection Scotland (Guidance for Non-Healthcare Settings) to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including COVID-19, such as:

  • Routine cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched objects and surfaces (e.g. telephones, keyboards, door handles, desks and tables).
  • Promote hand hygiene by making sure that staff, contractors, service users and visitors have access to hand washing facilities and providing alcohol-based hand rub in prominent places.
  • Ensure any crockery and cutlery in shared kitchen areas is cleaned with warm general purpose detergent and dried thoroughly before being stored for re-use.
  • Avoid leaving food stuffs (e.g. crisps, open sandwiches) exposed and open for communal sharing unless individually wrapped.

As individuals:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water; or use alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wherever possible, avoid direct contact with people that have a respiratory illness and avoid using their personal items such as their mobile phone.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes (nose and mouth) with disposable tissues, then dispose of these in the nearest waste bin after use. And then wash your hands/use Alcohol Based Hand Rub.

Fire Evacuation Procedures: Please note that escape routes and the fire assembly point, which should be used in the event of a fire, are displayed on the large screens before the morning and evening services.
